April 16th, 1967, Aretha Franklin made this song work, you decide was it female independence, racial change or merely  pledge of sexual satisfaction? If you ask me I say none, but it's all there in her voice!Otis Redding once stated, "That girl done stole my song" in a joking manner after he heard her rendition of the song. Otis wrote the song and had recorded it himself back in 1965.

The arrangement feature's a bridge which was copied from Sam and Dave's song, "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby". If you ask me Aretha does a much better version of the song than Otis did.

Aretha Franklin, "Respect" recorded 14 February 1967 in Memphis, TN.
