In the critics mindset between the first two albums released by Steely Dan, 'Can;t Buy A Thrill' (9172) and 'Countdown To Ecstasy' (1973), the first was written in the books as so so, however; the second made the grade.

The radio airplay dived right in on the first album with it's major hits, "Reelin' In The Years" and "Do It Again", the second album had none.

As far as the charts go, 'Can't Buy A Thrill' reached # 7 and 'Countdown To Ecstasy' reached # 35.

'Countdown To Ecstasy' being the album that it is helped Steely Dan become a force in the music industry, it's style, it's sound with Donald Fagen providing the lead vocals since David Palmer left the group.
