In 1972 "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" made it to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it sold more than two million copies, The Hollies were on a roll. The single is on the album 'Distant Light.'

This single "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" was released in 1972, sold more then two million copies and slide into the #2 position on the Billboard Top Hot 100 chart.

If you have The Hollies Anthology check out the liner notes, simply stated the song was penned by Allan Clarke (guitarist/vocals) in about five minutes. Allan is the featured guitarist on the original studio album. He was also childhood friends with Graham Nash.

The song was produced by the band themselves, since the day of the recording the producer Ron Richards was out sick.

Oddly enough, shortly after the album, 'Distant Light was released Allan Clarke left the band.
