'Brain Salad Surgery' was ELP's sixth album and was released in late 1973 which is about the time music had a slight change in direction known as progressive rock.

A very unique style based on rock- classical fusion essentially composed and arranged that had the idea of live performance in mind.

After 'Brain Salad Surgery' was released ELP had their hands full as it turns out it would be their tour of the album would be their largest.

Progressive rock was in it's infant stages, therefore: critics were a little harsh on the sound but with the fans it was a different story and the albums sold like crazy.
