The Grateful Dead got under way in 1965 out of San Francisco as a lot of bands when the frontman dies they band is not to far behind. The age of 'Flower Power'

The Grateful Dead originals were

Jerry Garcia - Guitar, banjo, vocals
Pigpen McKernan - Keyboards, harmonica, guitar, vocals
Phil Lesh - Bass guitar, vocals
Bob Weir - Rhythm guitar, vocals
Bill Kreutzmann - Drums

Some interesting facts on the band would include the band's name was chosen at random from a dictionary.

The Grateful Dead toured pretty much nonstop between 1965 and 1995.

Their stage set included a 32-foot high arrangement of speakers known as the Wall of Sound.  They recorded 26 albums between 1967 and 1990.


Grateful Dead History:Known as Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions and The Warlocks before adopting the name that carried them through a 30 year career.
The Dead were a fusion of rock, blues, bluegrass, jazz, folk, and country style band. The group encouraged fans, known as Deadheads, to tape their live performances which was unheard of by most bands.
They recorded their first album in three days that was released in 1967.
