"Black Friday" is about Friday, September 24, 1869.it has nothing to do with the biggest shopping day during the holidays.

It is known as "Black Friday" in the US because of a failed ploy that left many wealthy investors understand what the true definition of being broke is. The investors tried to corner the market on gold, buying as much of it as they could and driving up the price, however; when Uncle Sam caught wind of that move they released $4 million worth of gold into the market, which in turn drove the price down and it clobbered the investors.
