"Tonight's the Night"  was written as a tribute to Bruce Berry, a  roadie for Neil Young who died of a heroin overdose. Bruce was the second noteworthy person in Neil's life to die of a heroin overdose, the first being Danny Whitten, the original guitar player for Crazy Horse.
