Aerosmith were forced to cancel a pair of scheduled concerts this week in Shanghai and Taipei. The band was to play two music festivals on Wednesday (Aug. 21) and Saturday (Aug. 24) in China and Taiwan, but withdrew after the local concert promoter was unable to meet contractual obligations.

The announcement, released by Aerosmith via press release, doesn’t state exactly what the “contractual obligations” are, but the group did cancel a show in Indonesia a few months ago because of security issues. Four of the band’s five members issued statements regarding the latest cancellation.

“We are extremely upset to have disappointed our dedicated fans,” said singer Steven Tyler. “They have welcomed us into their country and due to uncontrollable circumstances, we will not be able to perform.  We were so excited to share our music with them and look forward to one day returning and giving them the show they deserve.”

“We’re disappointed, as we wanted to play for our fans,” said guitarist Joe Perry. “We’ve looked forward to this for a lifetime.”

“It’s always been a dream of ours to play in Shanghai and Taipei and meet our fans there,” said bassist Tom Hamilton. “We were really looking forward to visiting Shanghai and Taipei and playing for our fans there and are very disappointed that these two shows have been cancelled.”

“I’m disappointed we weren’t able to play for our fans in China,” said drummer Joey Kramer. “However, the circumstances were beyond our control. I sincerely hope Aerosmith will get another opportunity to come back to Shanghai and Taiwan to play for our many fans there.”

The promoters of the two festivals have not responded. The performances would have marked Aerosmith’s debut festival shows in both countries. The band heads back to the states at the end of the month for a show in Milwaukee.
