Those moments on any episode of Jeopardy! where Alex Trebek interviews the contestants are usually pleasant exchanges. But the episode that aired last night (Oct. 12) proved a little different. He said that lovers of nerdcore were "losers."

The Huffington Post says that Susan Cole, a legislative librarian, revealed in the interview segment to be into "nerdcore hip-hop." When pressed to define, Cole replied, "It’s people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love. Video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It’s really catchy and fun."

To which Trebek retorted, "Losers, in other words," as she and the studio audience burst into laughter.

But, as the saying goes, she who laughs last, laughs best. Cole turned out to be the winner, pocketing $20,600 and a chance to compete again on tonight's episode.

Last year, Jeopardy! made headlines among music fans when Rush fan Jennifer Morrow brought a pair of Neil Peart's drumsticks as a good-luck charm and bet $2,112 on a Daily Double. It paid off because, like Cole, she also emerged victorious, winning $19,200. On the second day, Trebek praised Morrow for bringing “a lot of physical energy” to the show, and won again, taking home $37,000 in total for her efforts.

Nerdcore popped up in the late '90s, and is believed to have been coined by MC Frontalot, one of the most famous musicians of the genre. "Weird Al" Yankovic's 2006 single "White & Nerdy," a parody of Chamillionaire and Krayzie Bone's hit "Ridin'," capitalized on the nerdcore trend.
