Alice Cooper Releases ‘Paranoiac Personality’ Single, Reveals ‘Paranormal’ Album Details
Alice Cooper has lifted the curtain on his upcoming Paranormal LP with a pre-release listen of the set's first single, "Paranoiac Personality."
Along with the single, Cooper has revealed the cover art and track listing for Paranormal, which is due in stores July 28 and available to pre-order now. As previously reported, the record features new material recorded with an assortment of special guests — including the surviving original members of the Alice Cooper band, which contributes two new songs, not three as initially expected — as well as a six-song "mini-album" capturing Cooper in concert during a 2016 live show.
Calling the album "like 12 great episodes of The Twilight Zone," Cooper promised that "each song tells its own twisted little tale" and added, "My definition of paranormal is something that is 'other than normal' or 'alongside of normal.' You could say my whole career has been that. I would look at what was normal and step left of it. That's what gets people's attention. They'd listen to our music and see our show and say, 'That's so strange ... oh yeah, that's so Alice."
The release of "Paranoiac Personality" comes just a day after Cooper sneaked a 30-second snippet of the track, which co-writer Tommy Denander told Ultimate Classic Rock is reflective of a collection that stands as "a vintage Alice album, full of cool guitar riffs and great attitude" while highlighting enough aspects of Cooper's musical personality to satisfy a broad spectrum of longtime fans.
"Paranormal feels like a play with three themes that are pretty different from each other, but they create a whole picture that’s very interesting, and really typical of the early Alice albums," explained Denander. "The main theme is based around five songs Alice, Bob, Tommy Henriksen and I wrote the music for. Theme two is the vibe created with the original Alice Cooper Band – Neal, Dennis and Michael, with the help of me and Tommy. Theme three is a couple of songs picked by Bob and Alice that sort of live their own lives. The diversity makes the album extra interesting."
