And the Halftime Entertainment for Super Bowl 46 is…

Madonna. Sorry there isn't more excitement behind this announcement, but I find it hard to believe that the NFL and NBC couldn't come up with someone more current to fill the coveted halftime slot. 

Now don't get me wrong, I like Madonna, but in my opinion she is well past her prime. She really should have quit about a decade ago and gone out on top. But instead she has chosen to continue her music career and will be releasing her 13th studio album this spring. Which explains why she will be performing at halftime for Super Bowl 46 in Indianapolis. This will be Madonna's first Super Bowl performance, and I think it is pretty safe to assume she will premier the first single from the new album at the show.

The official announcement came last night during the Detroit Lions vs. New Orleans Saints game, where they also announced Madonna will collaborate with Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King for the show.

I suppose since they have had such great performers including Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Prince and the Black Eyed Peas since 2005, they are due for a mediocre one like Madonna. They can't get it right every time.  Super Bowl 46 is February 5th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and will air live on NBC.
