The 2011 Americana Music Association Honors And Awards were held this weekend and two classic rockers walked away with some big prizes.

Robert Plant was bestowed the Album of the Year award for Band of Joy. The former Led Zeppelin lead singer was nominated in three categories, but took home the night's biggest honor for his latest effort.

In an interview with Nashville's Tennessean Plant said that when he was a child he used to love American music and always dreamed of what it would be like to come to the States. He also said that he felt very fortunate to be welcomed by some of Nashville's finest artists and to have the chance to work with them.

Gregg Allman also did not walk away empty handed. He was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the music industry over the past 40 years both as a solo artist and his work with The Allman Brothers.
