ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud teen faces a felony assault charge after a fight which seriously hurt another boy.

A juvenile petition in Stearns County Court states 17-year-old Brandon Bemboom is charged with one count of first degree assault stemming from the December 23rd incident.

Records show Bemboom and four others went to a home in Sartell to confront a 17-year-old boy over several exchanges made on social media. The group met the boy in the garage and an argument broke out between the victim and a 16-year-old girl.

The complaint alleges the girl ultimately spit on the boy and tried to punch him before the victim shoved her. The records show that's when Bemboom intervened, picked up the victim, threw him to the concrete floor, jumped on top of him and began punching him repeatedly. Bemboom allegedly yelled verbal threats and at one point threatened to kill the teen. Members of the group tried to pull Bemboom off the victim but were unable to do so.

Bemboom and the others were stopped by police after leaving the scene. Investigators say Bemboom provided a statement saying he was trying to protect his friend but that things got out of control and he went too far. He told authorities he recalled picking up the victim and throwing him to the floor but couldn't remember anything else because he "blacked out in anger".

The Sartell boy suffered several fractures including eye socket, skull, and knee. He suffered bleeding on his brain which was considered life threatening. He was taken to the Intensive Care Unit for observation.  His current condition is unknown at this time.
