The St. Cloud State football team will host Minnesota-Duluth on Celebrate St. Cloud State weekend at 6pm Saturday. The Huskies are 2-2 and are coming off a 25-19 win at previously unbeaten Wayne State while Minnesota-Duluth is ranked #2 in the latest Division II poll and are 4-0.
St. John's football will play the next 2-3 weeks without starting quarterback Connor Bruns. Bruns suffered a separated right shoulder in Saturday's game at Concordia-Moorhead. Both John Ries and Nick Martin saw time at quarterback Saturday with Bruns out.
Replacement referree Ken Roan worked the Vikings/49ers game in Minnesota Sunday and admitted he mistakenly awarded 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh two challenges after the coach had called his last timeout on Sunday. The Vikings were trying to run out the clock when Toby Gerhart fumbled on 3rd down. The 49ers used their final timeout and then were awarded a challenge and given their timeout back.
The Vikings improved to 2-1 Sunday with a stunning 24-13 win at home against the previously San Francisco 49ers. Minnesota jumped out to a 17-3 haltime lead and never trailed. Christian Ponder threw for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns and had a 23-yard touchdown run for the Vikings. Adrian Peterson ran for 86 yards on 25 carries and had 2 catches for 21 yards.
The St. Cloud State football team won 24-19 at Wayne State Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at 10 at halftime and scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter and held on to win. Michael Walker ran for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Huskies. Phil Klaphake threw for 222 yards and ran for 40 yards for SCSU.
St. John's football lost their 2nd straight game 31-21 at Concordia-Moorhead Saturday afternoon. St. John's committed 5 turnovers and couldn't recover from the mistakes. Connor Bruns threw for 132 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Nick Martin was 6-8 passing for the Johnnies for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions. John Ries also saw time at quarterback and was 5-11 passing for 59 yards and 1 interception.
The St. Cloud State football team looks to bounce back after a 25-21 home loss to Minnesota State-Mankato last Saturday at SCSU's Husky Stadium. St. Cloud State is off to a disappointing 1-2 start and will play at Wayne State in Nebraska at 1pm Saturday.
Former Viking receiver Randy Moss returns to Minnesota when the San Francisco 49ers play the Vikings at Mall of America Field Sunday at noon, pregame on WJON at 11am. Moss has been used sparingly by the 49ers this season appearing in just 16 offensive plays Sunday night against Detroit. He has just 5 catches for 61 yards and 1 touchdown this season. He caught just 1 pass for 14 yards against Detroit Sunday night.
The Minnesota Wild have offered 10% interest on the dollar value of the tickets to season ticket holders if they credit those games lost due to the lockout. The credit can be applied toward future games or subsequent season renewels. Credit will be issued when a new collective bargaining agreement is reached between the players and owners.
The Vikings lost 23-20 at Indianapolis Sunday afternoon to drop to 1-1. The Vikings scored 2 4th quarter touchdowns to tie the game at 20 with :31 left. Andrew Luck moved the Colts down field to set up the 53-yard game-winning field goal for Adam Vinatieri. Christian Ponder was 27-35 passing for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.
St. Thomas scored 29 straight points from the 2nd quarter to the 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach and beat rival St. John's 43-21. Connor Bruns threw for 316 yards and 2 touchdowns with 4 interceptions for the Johnnies. St. John's managed just 24 yards rushing in the game. Josh Bungum had 9 catches for 105 yards and Taylor Freetly had 7 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown for St. John's.
The St. John's football team hosts rival St. Thomas in both team's MIAC opener Saturday at 1pm at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.
