UNDATED -- Be on the lookout for deer the next several weeks.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says we are entering the peak time for car/deer crashes. In fact, more than half the crashes happen in late October or early November when deer are mating.

From 2013 to 2015, there were more than 6,100 deer-vehicle crashes with 15 fatalities and nearly 1,000 injury crashes.

You should pay special attention during dawn and dusk when deer are most active.

Expect the unexpected and pay special attention to roads near woods, farms and water crossings.

If you see one deer, expect others are nearby as they tend to travel in groups and in a single-file.

Slow down and never veer for a deer as it can cause you to lose control of your vehicle and strike another motorist or cause a rollover crash.
