Eddie "The Rocker" Norton, a well-known former roadie with Black Sabbath and friend of guitarist Tony Iommi, has died after crashing his motorcycle into a sign post in Thailand. Norton was 62.

Norton worked with former Sabbath drummer Cozy Powell in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Powell died in an automobile accident back in 1998.

Norton was in Thailand, staying at the Pattaya resort, to celebrate having kicked a lingering problem with alcohol, according to Dave Postle, a former club owner in Black Sabbath's hometown of Birmingham, England. "He might have had a stroke or a heart attack," Postle told The Birmingham Mail.

A memorial ceremony, organized in part by Norton's ex-wife Christine, is set for Saturday at the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Quinton, England.
