My recent travels down south not only got me in touch with new faces and places, but also new beer labels.  When my Florida friends caught wind of my love for trying new beers, one of them suggested I hit up her favorite beer all year round - Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale from Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company in Lexington, Kentucky.

Boy am I glad I stumbled across this release.  I'm a big fan of rich beers, but in the summer I crave something light and sweet.  That preference has led me to a handful of great ciders, but I'm just starting to find beers that I enjoy once those warm summer months begin to kick in.  I could drink this bourbon ale all spring and summer if it stayed on the shelves that long.  Not a bad buzz either.  You really only need a couple with an ABV rating of 8.19%, although the taste is so smooth, you hardly notice the extra bite.

Here's what flavors you should be tasting according to their website:

Our Kentucky Ale®is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust.

Find it in four packs where great beer is sold.  If you see it, grab it, so you don't miss out on what might be one of the best sweet ales I've ever tasted!
