Breweries, Bottle Shops Now Allowed After St. Cloud City Council Approval

ST. CLOUD – The St. Cloud city council has made a pair of changes to the city’s liquor ordinance.

The council has added an amendment to allow for a brewery and taproom in the city.  A taproom is attached to a brewery where the beer that’s brewed can be served.  They can also sell their own beer in up to 64 ounce containers.

With the growing popularity of craft beers, the city has had several requests lately by people interested in opening a brewery.  One potential site being considered by Aaron Rieland of Avon is for downtown St. Cloud.

The council approved a $550 annual license fee.

The city council also approved an amendment to allow for a Consumption and Display permit — more commonly known as bottle clubs or set-up bars.  The ordinance mirrors the state law, which allows liquor to be stored at the restaurant in a locker.

The council approved a $300 annual license fee.

The business Lily’s Wings and Things on 8th Street North has applied for a Consumption and Display Permit.  The council tabled that request, pending further information.

Both liquor ordinance changes go into effect in 30 days.
