Lindsey Buckingham to Join Dave Grohl and Queens of the Stone Age at Grammys

Lindsey Buckingham will join Dave GrohlQueens of the Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails during the Grammys finale on Jan. 26. But nobody’s sure what this very loud, and totally awesome, lineup will perform together.

According to Spin, the closing performance of the 56th-annual Grammy Awards on Sunday will feature the trio of hard-rock titans onstage together. For some reason, Fleetwood Mac‘s resident genius will also be there with them.

The connections? OK, follow this: Buckingham appeared in Grohl’s movie ‘Sound City,’ which also featured performances by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, who also happens to be in the band Them Crooked Vultures with Grohl and former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. Grohl has also played on albums by Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age.

Grohl is one popular, and well-connected, dude. He’s also up for a couple Grammys for ‘Sound City”s soundtrack album: Best Rock Song for ‘Cut Me Some Slack‘ (featuring Paul McCartney and Grohl’s surviving Nirvana bandmates) and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

It’s shaping up to be a pretty good year for the Grammys, which will be broadcast live at 8PM ET on CBS. In addition to Nine Inch Nails’ and Queens of the Stone Age’s first Grammy appearances, McCartney and Ringo Starr will both be on hand to accept a long-delayed Lifetime Achievement Award for the Beatles. Is it asking too much for McCartney and Starr to join the recently announced group of rockers onstage during the finale? There’s already the Grohl connection, and Buckingham has long acknowledged the Beatles’ influence in his work. Our fingers are crossed . . .
