Matt Cassel is opting out of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings to pursue free-agency, leaving Christian Ponder as the only quarterback currently on the roster. The move makes sense for Cassel in a year when the free-agent QB field is thin, possibly earning him a bigger check with a team willing to pay.

He could also re-sign with the Vikings as a free-agent (and likely be paid more than his current Minnesota contract would have provided). Cassel's contract would have been worth $3.7 million with the Vikes this year.

With Ponder the only current QB on the team, and a free-agent pool that contains Cassel, Freeman, Vick, and McCown -- I for one am hoping the Vikings will trade up in the May draft and grab a future superstar.

A guy can dream right?
