UNDATED - Stearns County has had a couple of significant weather events on this day (October 26th) in our history.

The National Weather Service says Georgeville had 65 mile an hour winds gusts on October 26th in 2010.  Very strong winds were widespread throughout the state that day, with 65 mph winds also recorded in Lac Qui Parle County.

That same day the state also has the distinction of the lowest pressure on record for Minnesota with a reading of just 28.21 in Bigfork.

And on October 26th in 1996 the upper Midwest had a severe weather outbreak.  Intense low pressure tracking into Minnesota produced blizzard conditions in South Dakota while across the border here in Minnesota we had unseasonable mild temperatures with highs in the 70's.

Storms developed that day, including 12 tornadoes statewide.  Tornadoes touched down here in Stearns County, as well as in Douglas, Swift, Kandiyohi, Pope, and Isanti counties.  The strongest was an F2 tornado southwest of Alexandria.  One woman suffered broken bones when a portion of her home was launched 200 feet onto the interstate.  This same tornado also pushed over a 500 pound fuel tank.
