The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) added a new award in ’76 – Platinum which honors a million in sales and the first one went to The Eagles for their Greatest Hits of 1971-1975. According to the RIAA it’s the best selling album of all time (in the U.S.).
The fastest selling album of any American band goes to Boston (self- titled debut album) that went 17x Platinum also it hit #11 on RIAA’s list of Top 100 bestselling albums. in midsummer Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled broke the record for most weeks on the chart before hitting #1 and sold more than 5 Million.
Paul McCartney’s Wings Over America summer tour was the first time Paul performed in the States since The Beatles last U.S. show in 1966.
Late Summer of 1976 London’s 100 Club Punk festival has headliners as The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks and The Damned.
