A flurry of cautions, a record amount of lead changes and blistering heat made up one amazing day for Dario Franchitti as he took the drink of milk in Gasoline Alley and the checkered flag at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 96th Indy 500 race.

For the first half of the race, it looked as if Marco Andretti, would be in command, but with a overwhelming amount of yellow flags his lead dwindled in the last 100 laps. With just 10 laps to go, Andretti crashed causing another yellow and a spur of lead changes as it lifted. Crowd favorite #11 Tony Kanaan bolted into first for a few laps, but was overcome with just five laps to go by Target Chip Ganassi's team of Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon, with teammate Takuma Sato barreling into third.

With one lap to go, Kanaan's Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan ally Sato made the move from 2nd to overtake Franchitti, but lost control during the pass and crashed. Early on, Franchitti recovered from a 29th place fracas due to a dust-up and spin-out in the pits with E.J Visio. Franchitti was heard to say over his radio; "Visio. What a clown."

This is Franchitti's third Indy win, all under cautions.
