The San Francisco band Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin which was a regional act before they  signed a record deal.

After the spectacular performances at the Monterey Pop Festival in June of 1967 things would change for the best.

The truth actually tells a different story.

By the time of the Monterrey festival, the band had already stirred up enough attention to be signed by a small Mainstream recording label.

The group's debut album,  'Big Brother and the Holding Company' from 1967 had some pretty exhilarating moments when you think of Joplin handling the vocals why would we think different? It will never come close to capturing the  high energy and  power of this psychedelic blues band.

However;the  force would be revealed on their 'Cheap Thrills' album.

The 1968 Columbia  album, 'Cheap Thrills' is the album that made Joplin a star.

Big Brother's essential songs:

    • "Women Is Losers"
