Some bands nail an identifiable group sound the first time out in the studio, i.e. The Doors and Traffic, however; some don't and I'll give you some examples.

More common than none the initial recording for some is missing a couple crucial elements that would later come to define the band's very identity.

Here's a look at some debut albums, we'll start off with the band Yes.

Like a lot of bands Yes is fascinating in their own way, the bottom line is there are greater things to come.

The Band Yes:

'Yes' their debut album was released in July of 1969, two years later things would really kick in for the band with their second album 'The Yes Album.'

Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass), Bill Bruford (drums) and Tony Kaye (keyboards) all made up the pioneering progressive rock ensemble that would eventually break on through to the other side.

Steve Howe (guitar) would show up soon as a mainstay for the band replacing Peter Banks on 'Time and a Word' album and the mature sound of the band would be full speed ahead.

Yes essential songs:

    • "Every Little Thing"
