Over the weekend my lovely wife Ali and I got a chance to hit the MN State Fair. She was initially more interested in the merchandise vendors and the musical acts more than anything. My desire was to check out as many foods on a stick, but once I got there, the overwhelming smell of fryers and the day's heat...I just wanted to check out the many beer vendors, especially the craft brews.

Traditionally I've always stuck to the common national brand beer, but in light of the America On Tap beer festival coming this weekend, I wanted to be a little more hip on my knowledge of the local craft brew tastes. I'm glad I did!

Ali isn't much of a beer drinker, unless it's heavily flavored with a fruity taste and can be poured over ice. She came with me through the craft beer booths anyway, and was glad she did too. Believe it or not, there are tons of fruit infused craft beers, as well as about any flavor you can think of. She really enjoyed a berry flavored brew, and a grapefruit brew. She also liked a couple of the cider beers as well.

For me, the dark beers and lemon infused brews topped my list. I can guarantee I'll be buying a ton more local craft brews at the liquor store from now on. I'm glad we spent so much time there.

What did we get out of this? A new appreciation of what 'beer' is these days, and it's not always your grandpa's beer. If you know somebody who says they don't like beer, tell them to trust you and take them out to America On Tap this Saturday (Sept 12th) at Benton County Fairgrounds and find them a craft brew they enjoy. I promise they'll find at least 1 out of the hundred they realize they like. You'll thank me for it ;)

Check out the America On Tap website here and get your tickets!
