When you're married, you share everything as one, right? I'm floored to hear there's a ton of married couples who keep their finances separate with their own checking accounts.

There's probably a ton of reason why people would do this, but it just seems odd to me. It makes things complicated in my opinion. Plus it's double the statements and paperwork, which I could live without.

I guess I can understand if you've got a spouse that has a spending problem and you don't want ALL of your money gone, so you keep it separate - you have your money, and they have theirs...once it's gone, it's gone.

Other than that the only benefit I can see with this is if you divorce, you don't have to fight over the money in your joint checking account!
