Got an extra couple million dollars lying around? You could put yourself in the running to own a piece of rock history.

ABC News Radio reports that Bob Dylan's handwritten lyric sheets for 'Like a Rolling Stone' are about to hit the auction block courtesy of Sotheby's, where they're part of a collection dubbed 'A Rock & Roll History: Presley to Punk.' According to the auction house, "Sotheby’s will offer important manuscripts from a Bob Dylan masterpiece, to Jim Morrison’s Miami bail bond and Jimi Hendrix’s infamous first contract, that illuminate the golden years of rock music history. The iconography of the music is featured with Rock Photography and vintage tour and promotional posters from Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream and Bruce Springsteen."

"This is the Holy Grail of rock lyrics," Sotheby's executive Richard Austin said of Dylan's back pages, which are expected to sell for between $1 million and $2 million. "The release of 'Like a Rolling Stone' irreversibly changed postwar music history. With one song, Bob Dylan elevated rock music from mere 'pop' to the medium though which youth culture expressed itself."

It's hard to argue with Austin on that point, but that's still an awful lot of money for four sheets of paper (described as including "an almost complete set of words to the song" as well as "commentary by Dylan about American cultural imagery" and "several doodles by the singer/songwriter"). Don't fret, though -- if the 'Rolling Stone' lyrics are out of your price range, there's always 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall,' which is expected to fetch a comparatively affordable $400,000 to $600,000.
