With Halloween looming, time is running out to get your Halloween costume.  If you choose to buy a costume from one of the many Halloween stores you better get on it, cause the shelves are getting bare, but if you decide to put together a costume on your own, here are four ways to save this Halloween.   According to the National Retail Federation, over $70 will be spent on Halloween this year.  If that seems like a lot of money, here are four ways to minimize your spending .

1.  Costume swap - Get together with your friends and have everyone bring a costume that they have worn too many time already and just swap costumes.  This is an easy way to get a different look this year without spending any money.  This could also be a good drinking game too.  Get drunk and dare others to wear their old costumes.  The only bad thing is you could end up wearing a Little Bo Peep costume or a naughty nurse.  Although if you've ever thought of cross-dressing this would be your opportunity to try it out.

2.  Build your own costume - The key to this is utilizing social media, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc., find something and tweak it to make it your own.  Speaking of tweaking, you could just go as a meth addict.  Just rip your clothes, drag them through mud, sleep in a dirt hole for two days ans stop brushing your teeth and your costume is set.

3.  Shop at thrift stores - This is my favorite option cause you can put together a very cool costume with cheap items.  This one actually goes hand-in-hand with #2 on this list.  So not ever sure why this list has four things, it could have easily have just been three.  Damn I'm dumb.

4.  Find something you like and look online to find it cheaper - This sucks if you are crunched for time, but if you plan ahead you can usually find yourself a great costume online.  This takes away from shopping locally, but when money is tight ya gotta do what ya gotta do.  Check out some discounted costumes here.
