Today is National Pancake Day and if you're wondering why there's a long line outside the Waite Park IHOP, it's because they're handing out free pancakes for a limited time today.

It started at 7am this morning and runs until 7pm tonight -- not just as a celebration for National Pancake Day, but for another great cause. Here's what International House of Pancakes (IHOP) is saying on their website about today:

Enjoy a FREE short stack of our Original Buttermilk Pancakes and donate to help children battling critical illnesses. Every stack served helps us reach our goal of raising $5 million for local children’s hospitals and health organizations.

You'll want to bring a few dollars with you though, as you'll be expected to donate something in exchange for the short stack of pancakes.

I'm completely a fan of these types of things. There's just something about the cause that makes me have no problem giving even double what I'd normally pay if it wasn't free. Dealing with the long line to get in may or may not be for you, but it's for a good cause for sick children.

IHOP is located at 327 2nd St S, Waite Park.
