It usually makes me a little nervous buying any produce at the big box stores.  It always seems like they veggies/fruit look a little sad - like they have had a long journey between the farm and the store - so to hear that there has been a recall doesn't really surprise me.

I realize just because produce is being sent to a big box supermarket doesn't make it bad.  I also realize that local supermarkets can have bad produce too, but to me the perception is that the bigger the store the bigger the bulk, which means less attention to detail.

Either way it seems that a number of fruit has been recalled voluntarily by the packaging plant and it has affected at least four of the biggest retail giants; Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Costco, and Trader Joe's.

Here is the list of potential fruit affected by this recall.

Organic White Nectarine
Organic Yellow Nectarine
White Nectarine
Yellow Nectarine
Organic Yellow Peach
White Peach
Yellow Peach
Organic Dapple Dandy Plumcot
Plum

Apparently there is a chance that the fruit was exposed to Listeria monocytogenes – a “serious infection” that can be fatal to newborns, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
