What is there to do with romantic items from past relationships, such as stuffed animals, garter belts, a prosthetic leg (more on that in a sec) or a wedding dress other than burn or toss ‘em? Send them off to the Museum of Broken Relationships in Croatia. Consider it the destination where old, no-longer-useful relationship relics go to die or at least live out the end of their “lives” with some dignity.

According to Yahoo!, the items are collected from all over the world and come with written testimonies, ranging from bitter to funny to sweet to angry, about the relationship gone wrong. About 100 out of 1,000 items are currently on display.

The establishment sees a spike in visitors on Valentine’s Day. Perhaps it’s a comfort for the newly-broken hearted on a day that celebrates lovers.

Designer, artist and co-founder Drazen Grubisic, who started the museum when he and his ex split and couldn’t come to an agreement about the division of relationship assets, said, “We might say it’s a love museum, just upside down.”

Now about that prosthetic leg. It’s now showcased at the National Centre for Craft and Design in England but was donated by a war vet who had fallen in love with his physical therapist. The note that accompanied the appendage joked that the leg lasted longer because it was constructed of sturdier material. It’s owner just had to give that relationship the boot.

Ironically enough, the museum is located across from City Hall in Zagreb, which is where couples get married. It’s also a couple blocks from a hotel that charges by the hour, where couples…oh you figure it out.
