ST. PAUL - St. Cloud State outshot Minnesota 39-29 but couldn't get pucks in the net, falling to the #1 ranked Gophers 4-1 in the North Star College Cup.

Travis Boyd opened the scoring in the first period to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead. The Huskies would strike back in the second period with a goal from Jonny Brodzinski to tie the game. It was Brodzinski's team leading 12th goal of the season.

The Gophers took control of the action after the tie. Nate Condon and Hudson Fasching both scored for Minnesota to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. Seth Ambroz would put the nail in the coffin by scoring an empty net goal for a 4-1 Gopher victory.

Ryan Faragher made 16 saves for SCSU before being relieved by Charlie Lindgren in the third. Adam Wilcox shut down St. Cloud by making 38 saves for the Gophers.

The North Star College Cup continues through Saturday. St. Cloud State will play a consolidation game against Minnesota State Mankato at 4:07 p.m. The Gophers will take on the Duluth Bulldogs for the championship at 7:07 p.m.
