The Golden Gopher men's basketball team took down Northwestern 54-48 Sunday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Illinois. The win is Minnesota's first at Welsh-Ryan since 2008.

Deandre Mathieu almost single-handedly led the Gophers to victory with 18 points on 7-10 shooting. No other Minnesota player scored in double figures, but Andre Hollins and Maurice Walker each scored eight in the win.

JerShon Cobb scored 23 points for the Wildcats to keep them in the game, which was close throughout. Leading scorer Drew Crawford had a dreadful night for Northwestern, scoring just two points on 1-15 shooting.

The Gophers improve to 6-7 in the Big Ten with the win and are now 17-9 overall. Minnesota hosts Illinois Wednesday night at Williams Arena.
