When it comes to musicians who have hailed from the land of 10,000 lakes, almost all of them live in the shadows of Prince and Bob Dylan. It’s easy to understand why. It’s awfully hard to live up to the legacy of those two musical giants.

But believe it or not, there are several other musicians who were born in Minnesota too. Since I’m a guitarist myself and therefore have a bias for guitarists, today we’re going to take a look at guitar players who you probably didn’t realize are from Minnesota.

  1. Dan Wilson – Born in Minneapolis. From the band Semisonic. He also wrote “Closing Time.”
  2. Bob Stinson – Born in Waconia. Played guitar in The Replacements.
  3. Dez Dickerson – Born in Minneapolis. Played guitar in The Revolution (Prince’s band.)
  4. Jan Kuehnemund – Born in St. Paul. Played guitar in the all girl rock band Vixen
  5. Mark Chaussee – Born in Minneapolis. Well known rock guitarist who has played for Marylin Manson.
