COLORADO - The St. Cloud State men's hockey team won the first National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season championship with a 4-1 win over Colorado College on Saturday night.

SCSU went into the game tied with UND at the top of the NCHC standings. The Huskies win was paired with a 2-1 UND loss to Western Michigan, securing a first place finish for St. Cloud State.

The Huskies now have the top seed in the upcoming NCHC playoffs. St. Cloud will take on Miami University in a best of three series at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center starting on March 14th.

SCSU took control of the game early with goals from Kalle Kossila and Jimmy Murray to take a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Senior captain Nic Dowd would add his 19th goal of the season in the second to make it 3-0. Johnny Brodzinski also added his 20th goal this season in the third to make it 4-0.

Goalie Ryan Faragher picked up the win with 20 saves in the contest. Faragher finishes the year leading the NCHC with 19 wins during the season.
