If you're a fan of the late singer, you're more than likely going to want to check this film out.

The film will simply be called Joplin and producers have tapped a Tony Award winning actress for the title role.

Deadline.com says that Nina Arianda has been cast in the title role and this will be Nina's big screen debut. She's had bit parts in other films, but has not yet had a turn in the starring slot. She snagged a Tony last month for her work in Venus in Fur. Sounds interesting.

Super producer Peter Newman is the mind behind Joplin and he has been working on it for more than 10 years now and has secured the rights to 21 of Janis's songs, plus he will be using the books Love, Janis and Piece of My Heart to aid in getting the details right.

The film will focus on the last six months of Janis's life and is slated to begin production next year. Janis Joplin died in October of 1970 of a drug overdose. She was just 27.
