University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill announced this morning that he is retiring effective immediately due to medical concerns. Tracy Claeys, who served as acting head coach for seven games during the 2013 season, has been named as the interim head coach.

Last year Kill was voted the Big Ten's 'Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year' by the conference's coaches, and the 'Dave McClain Coach of the Year' by the media who cover the Big Ten.

Jerry kill has 156 career wins as a head coach, and a .605 winning percentage.

The Golden Gophers host the Michigan Wolverines this Saturday night at 6 PM at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
