I told you in September this was coming and a preview was released a few weeks ago and tonight Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A-Comin’ premieres on PBS.

Bob Smeaton, director behind several other music documentaries headed up the project and he says that his goal was to give viewers a good look at Jimi Hendrix and the man behind the music.

In his efforts, he told Radio.com that he included a lot of never before seen footage and talked to people who had never been interviewed before like some of Jimi’s friends from school, old girlfriends and family members. He says that he wanted to get his story from people who actually knew Jimi and didn’t get their information from some book.

Several celebrities also contributed to the project. Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A-Comin’ hits store shelves today and it’s also tonight’s subject of American Masters on PBS.
