10th Anniversary Johnny Ramone Tribute Concert Scheduled for August
It seems impossible that it’s already been this long, but Sept. 15 will mark the 10th anniversary of Johnny Ramone’s death — an occasion that will be marked by some of Ramone’s friends, loved ones, and fans on Aug. 24 in Los Angeles.
The Ramones guitarist will be honored by an eclectic group of performers at the 10th anniversary Johnny Ramone Tribute Concert, scheduled to be held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery with a lineup that includes Rob Zombie, Sex Pistols alum Steve Jones, ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, and former ‘SNL’ star Fred Armisen, who will reportedly resurrect his ‘Ian Rubbish’ punk musician alter ego for the gig.
Some of the evening’s festivities will include a display of Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett‘s collection of horror movie memorabilia, a screening of Zombie’s ‘Devil’s Rejects’ film, and a simulcast of what promises to be a “blistering set of Ramones songs from [an] all-star band.” It all adds up to a suitably irreverent tribute to the life and legacy of a man who co-founded one of rock’s most lovably anti-authoritarian bands of misfits. “The Ramones were the great American rock band of our time,” Zombie told Rolling Stone. “Endlessly copied but never equaled.”
Tickets for the event are available through Ticketfly, with prices ranging between $20 and $75 and all proceeds benefiting the Johnny Ramone Foundation & Dr. David Agus at the Center for Applied Medicine at USC. For further information, visit Ramone’s official site.
