I'm not big on exercise...that's why I'm so big. I have a gym membership, but thus far I've only used it for a shower when the power goes out.

Back (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back) in my health nut days, I ran. A lot. There were a lot of bears where I grew up, so they kept me on my toes.

Even back then, I noticed that running while listening to music made it a bit easier. On my more masochistic days, I'd intentionally run without music. Back then, we didn't have fancy iPods and such; a Walkman was required. And running while the batteries were dying was a challenge of its own. It still beat running without music, though. Why?

According to New Scientist, listening to music while exercising not only makes you less tired, but it also dulls the pain (no more whiskey before workouts! Don't judge me...).

The brain releases science-y things called "opioids" when it hears music. Opioids act as a natural painkiller, much like morphine (without the druggie stigma).

Of course, laying on the couch listening to music is great, too. It's also easier to hold on to your sandwich.
