It’s been a solid two years since ‘LOST‘ finally ended its historic run with the divisive, yet aptly-titled “The End,” but the rumor mill hasn’t stopped churning with ideas and possibilities for a way to continue the Island stories so richly chronicled on ABC.  After all, with many of ‘LOST’s mysteries still unresolved, even by the supposed “epilogue” included on the DVD, isn’t a return trip due?

Maybe, but don’t expect ‘LOST’ co-creator and show-runner Damon Lindelof to have any involvement in it.  Lindelof seems to have grown rather comfortable in his post-’LOST’ niche, occasionally chatting about the show via his Twitter or in interviews, but never buckling down to officially re-open the island for business.  With the property still strong in recent memory however, might others take a crack at it in the near future?

Speaking with reporters at Variety‘s recent Technology Summit, Lindelof said of a possible ‘LOST’ re-surgence:

“It’s been two years (since the series wrapped) and we told the story we wanted to tell,” Lindelof said. But he admits ABC might look for ways to bring back “Lost” in some form. “I do feel like the world has not seen the end of ‘Lost,’ but I’m not going to have any involvement,” he said.

Of course, that doesn’t preclude the idea of someone else picking up the mantle, which Lindelof confessed it would be “hypocritical” of him to criticize, given his current involvement with the ‘Star Trek‘ reboot series.  Lindelof also had a hand in writing the upcoming ‘Prometheus,’ loosely connected with the existed ‘Alien’ franchise.

What say you?  Should ‘LOST’ keep off the radar for another few years before someone tries to resurrect the franchise, or was the series ruined by the final season?  Who would you like to see take a crack at the legendary ABC series, and with what characters?  Give us your theories and (abbreviated) fan-fiction in the comments below!
