Man Pleads Guilty in St. Cloud Shooting

ST. CLOUD -- A New York man who was charged with firing a gun in a downtown St. Cloud parking ramp last spring pleaded guilty in Stearns County District Court Thursday.

Thirty-one-year-old Mychal White pleaded guilty to one count of illegally having a gun and one count of second degree assault.

St. Cloud Police were patrolling the downtown area at bar closing time on a night in May when they heard gunshots coming from the area near the Centre Square parking ramp. Officers saw four men running from the ramp, yelling they had been shot at.

Police questioned White who was trying to leave the scene. Records show they smelled alcohol on his breath and saw a handgun on the seat of his van. Investigators say they found spent shell casings from a .25 caliber gun inside the parking garage and matched those to the gun recovered from White's van.

The group told police they were leaving the bars at around 2:00 a.m. and were walking into the ramp when White confronted them. They said he fired gunshots into the ground in front of their feet.

White will be sentenced May 25th and is expected to be sentenced to five years in prison.
