UFO started in Great Britain with Phil Mogg, Andy Parker, Pete and Mick Bolton, who was replaced a couple albums in by former Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker.  It was the German shredder who seemed to help propel the band into popularity around the world.  Although they never achieve success in the States, they had a huge following in Japan, Germany and eventually in their homeland of Great Britain.

UFO was more of a heavy blues-based Rock band, but so many Metal guitarists would be influenced by Schenker's style of playing.  If it hadn't been for some of his difficult behavior over the years he may have been even more recognized.  Nonetheless his off and on relationship with UFO produced some amazing work over the years.  Another reason they had such longevity was their electrifying stage presence as displayed in the live 1975 version of "Rock Bottom".
