Metal After Midnight: Yngwie Malmsteen “Heaven Tonight”
Yngwie Malmsteen came onto the scene in the early 80’s as this blistering young Swede from the band “Alcatrazz” that featured Rainbow lead singer Graham Bonnet. But soon he became almost to big for the band and started his solo career under the moniker “Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force”.
Malmsteen came from the era of the Guitar Gods and really took the classical style of Ritchie Blackmore to new heights. Many would consider him one of the most technically sound guitarist of all time. Ironically the Classic Rock era never embraced him as he was more a part of the 80’s Hairband scene. Over time though he was much more respected and did the G3 tour with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
Here’s a cut from 1988’s Odyssey that featured another former Rainbow singer Joe Lynn Turner.
