The Metrodome was deflated for the final time this morning, readying it for demolition; and making way for the construction of the new $1-billion Vikings stadium -- due to open at the start of the 2016 season.

Construction of the new stadium has already begun, in the midst of ongoing legal issues. The Vikings played their final game at the dome on December 29th against the Lions; and will spend the next two seasons at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium.

The 10-acre teflon roof of the Metrodome will be cut up into smaller pieces and recycled.
