UNDATED -- As we approach the holidays, the good news is that the flu season is off to a slow start in Minnesota.

Minnesota Department of Health Epidemiologist Melissa McMahon says now is a good time for you to get your flu shot because flu activity tends to spike during the holidays when people are often in close quarters with one another.

The latest figures from the state health department indicate flu activity is considered localized and there have been no infant deaths so far this season.

There were seven new school outbreaks last week for a total of 18 statewide and 13 new hospitalizations bringing the total number to 71 for the season.
