Neil's first solo album, 'Neil Young' the Canadian artist was still finding his way as a singer-songwriter, however; a number of fine performances can be found within it.

A couple of these hard hitting rockers would include the songs  “I’ve Been Waiting For You” and “The Loner.”

"The Loner" may be one the most revealing songs that Young has ever released. The lyrics tell us the tensions that seemingly define Neil's ambiguous personality, definitely one that lacks definition.

"The Loner" has been rumored  to be about Stephen Stills, Neil's bandmate in Buffalo Springfield. Stephen Stills even recorded the song on his  'Illegal Stills' album  that was released in 1976.
