(PG) The animation geniuses at PIXAR are back with another completely original story. Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

Original Brave director Brenda Chapman (The Lion King, Prince of Egypt) based the story on the tempestuous relationship she had with her own teenaged daughter. That notion morphed into a medieval fantasy revolving around a teenaged heroine who rebels against her mother, a Scottish queen. Chapman was replaced by co-director Mark Andrews (The Incredibles, Ratatouille), but her name remains in the credits.

The voice cast is spectacular, as usual, featuring Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd and Craig Ferguson
