We're all on the edge of our command chair here, awaiting the opening of the next chapter of JJ Abrams' re-visioning of Star Trek. It should come as no surprise that any little itty-bitty tidbit Paramount or Abrams' production company Bad Robot throws out is immediately snatched up and consumed by our resident geeks like Klingons at a qagh buffet.

The new Star Trek: Into Darkness app that premiered at CES in Las Vegas today will be no exception. According to  Qualcomm's Chairman and CEO Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, the app will launch at the end of January and provide state of the art interactive features that will include new "STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS" content, such as videos, images and wallpapers delivered directly to your mobile device.

Not only that, but the app developers promise it will allow us the ability to unlock the first of many surprises during the airing of the "STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS" tv-spot, that will run during the 2nd quarter of the Super Bowl. This will make the app one of the most unique and interactive ever created for a movie. As a bonus, you can register for the app prior to its release and automatically get entered into a sweepstakes for the chance to win a VIP trip to the U.S. premiere.

In the meantime check out this insider interview with Trek villain Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve who is playing Dr. Carol Marcus.

"STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS" opens in theaters everywhere May 17, 2013.
